But if you start a qualifying business in the country, you can be eligible for German residency.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Investment_options_available_to_acquire_the_citizenship_and_passport_of_Germany\"><\/span><strong>Investment options available to acquire the citizenship and passport of Germany.\u00a0<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Entrepreneurial\/Self-Employed Visa<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Would you like to set up a company in Germany or work as a freelancer? In this case, you have the option of applying for a visa to work as a self-employed person. Different conditions apply depending on whether you plan to work as a trader or freelancer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">There is no minimum required amount for a German entrepreneurial visa. However, an unofficial recommendation is that you should plan to invest at\u00a0<\/span><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">least \u20ac360,000<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. This sum shows that your investment will meet all the requirements set by the German government.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>a. You must meet the following requirements:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">You can prove that your project is financed.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">You have a license to practice the profession that you plan to practice as a freelancer.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">If you are older than 45, you must also prove that you have sufficient pension provision.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>One of the most important requirements of a Freelancer Visa is having a registered living address in Germany. The procedure of registering your residence is called\u00a0<em>Anmeldung.<\/em>\u00a0What you have to do is:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Find a place to live.\u00a0<\/strong>You can also find accommodation\u00a0<em>before\u00a0<\/em>you travel to Germany, but you have to register your living address within 14 days of moving in.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Make an appointment at the local Resident\u2019s Registration Office (<em>B\u00fcrgeramt)<\/em>.<\/strong>\u00a0Depending on the specific Registration Office, you could do this online without having to visit the office in person.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Prepare the following documents:<\/strong>\n<ol>\n<li>Your passport.<\/li>\n<li>The registration form. You can download this online or get it at the Registration Office.<\/li>\n<li>Rental agreement.<\/li>\n<li>Confirmation of moving in from your landlord. The confirmation must contain the landlord\u2019s name and address, your move-in date, and your new apartment\u2019s address.<\/li>\n<li>Civil status documents, such as birth or marriage certificates.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Submit the documents (in person) at the\u00a0<em>B\u00fcrgeramt<\/em>\u00a0on the date of your appointment.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Wait to get your\u00a0<em>Meldebescheinigung<\/em>.\u00a0<\/strong>This is the document confirming your residence registration, and you usually get the certificate on the same day.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Wait to receive a Tax ID number.\u00a0<\/strong>You need this number to register your freelance activity with the German Tax Office. This process could take a few weeks, so make sure to start the application process as early as you can.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Registering with the Tax Office<\/span><\/p>\n<p>To begin freelancing, you have to register with the German Tax Office (<em>Finanzamt<\/em>) and declare your freelance activity or business and get a\u00a0<strong>freelance tax number (<em>Steuernummer<\/em>)<\/strong>. To do this, you have to:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Complete the Questionnaire for Tax Collection (<em>Fragebogen zur steuerlichen Erfassung<\/em>)*.<\/strong>\u00a0You can complete this form online,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.formulare-bfinv.de\/ffw\/content.do?%24csrf=5ARMVXSYTP68P2SHLZ9KIXPLL\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">via the website of the German Ministry of Finances<\/a>\u00a0(<em>Bundesministerium der Finanzen<\/em>) or you can request it from the\u00a0<em>Finanzamt<\/em>. You should have the following information at hand:\n<ol>\n<li>Your Tax ID Number. The one you received when you registered your address.<\/li>\n<li>Your bank information.<\/li>\n<li>A detailed description of your freelance activity or business.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Find the local\u00a0<em>Finanzamt\u00a0<\/em>(Tax Office).\u00a0<\/strong>Make an appointment, if one is required.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Send the questionnaire to the\u00a0<em>Finanzamt<\/em>\u00a0in person.<\/strong>\u00a0You may also be able to mail it, depending on the specific office.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Wait to receive your freelance tax number (<em>Steuernummer<\/em>).\u00a0<\/strong>It could take a few weeks, and you should receive it via mail.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>*If you are a business owner:\u00a0<\/strong>You have to register your business and get a license at the local Trade Office (<em>Gewerbeschein<\/em>) before you complete the Questionnaire for Tax Collection.<\/p>\n<p>Registering with the tax office can be quite daunting and complex, especially for freelancers who have no experience with the German tax system.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Naturalisering:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The requirements that you need to fulfill to qualify for naturalization are as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">You must have lived in Germany on a residence permit for at least eight years, or<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">You must have lived in Germany on a residence permit for seven years and attended an integration course (this becomes six years in special integration circumstances)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">You must prove German language proficiency of at least B1.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">You must be financially able to support yourself and your family without any help from the state.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">You must be a law-abiding citizen with no criminal record.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">You must pass a citizenship test.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">You must renounce any previous citizenship<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Benefits_Of_The_Germany_Residency_By_Investment_Program\"><\/span>Benefits Of The Germany Residency By Investment Program<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">German residence permit that is valid for three years<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Your family &#8211; spouse and children under the age of 18 &#8211; can be included in your original residence permit application and, eventually, you can become German citizens together<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">World-class education and healthcare systems, and the German job market<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Permanent residency after 3 years<\/li>\n<li>Citizenship after eight years<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\"><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Germany_Residency_Requirements_And_Qualifications\"><\/span>Germany Residency Requirements And Qualifications<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">You\u2019re at least 18 years old<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">You have a solid business plan that addresses your objectives<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">You have enough experience in the business you want to start in Germany<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">To be recognized as a German-based company, your firm or organization will hire at least five people in Germany<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">You don\u2019t have a criminal record<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Have German health insurance<\/li>\n<li>Possess an intermediate level of the German language<\/li>\n<li>You must prove that there are clients interested in working with you. Your prospective clients have to write letters of intent, proving they plan to hire you. This is not a work contract, just a letter showing interest in your services or work.<\/li>\n<li>You must prove that you have enough money to live comfortably in Berlin. At least \u20ac9,000\/year.<\/li>\n<li>You must have legal residence in Germany. You have to find accommodation and register your address at a local registration office, known as\u00a0<em>B\u00fcrgeramt<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>You must have an adequate pension plan if you are over the age of 45. Your plan must cover all details of your concept and explain why and how the German economy will benefit from your business. Your business plan will be evaluated by the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 2: Apply for a Self-Employment Visa at the German Embassy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Once your business plan has been approved, you can start your application for a self-employment visa for entrepreneurial activities at the German embassy in your country of residence. This visa will give you the right to enter Germany to start a business.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0<\/span><strong>Step 3: Arrive in Germany and Get Your Temporary Residence Permit<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The immigration authorities will give you a three-year temporary residence permit when you arrive in Germany.
